Jen Morrison is an archivist in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with a pesky tendency to engage in creative writing.
Always a history geek, she has spent her career in public history work, primarily as an archivist (which she brags about since that is obviously the coolest job title). She also worked in museums and historic sites; has done a considerable amount of writing and speaking; created exhibits, and spent time dipping candles for tourists in a long dress her mom made. She gets excited about what technology can do for the public history field and explores that by digitizing photos and creating online exhibits and photo essays.
After a rectal cancer diagnosis in 2013, she started the blog, badassjen.com. That was difficult at first, but she found it less embarrassing to try to explain her struggle (or “mud wrestle”) with cancer than attempt to hide it while negotiating work, social situations and life. She hopes that people can learn things from the blog.
